When it says you need 10.6.8, I think this means that you need 10.6.8 to access the App Store to buy the image. Here's what Wackipedia says about 10.8 models: It helps to dig around, find people with similar experiences, and learn from their successes and failures. Just because an upgrade may be possible, does not mean that it is desirable in all cases. So, from that perspective, wiping your 10.5 system is not much of a leap.Īs to whether or not you can or should upgrade your Macbook, you will have much better results researching this online than by asking Apple. If you replace your whole Macbook, then you will be starting from a blank system anyway. There's no sense in buying in-between versions of the OS which you aren't going to actually use. Of course if I could easily run 10.8 and do Logic Pro X I guess that'd be fine too.Īutomaton wrote:I have a Mac Pro from 2008 rather than a Macbook (pro or not pro?), but couldn't you just download 10.8 and then do a clean install rather than having to put on 10.6? If I can upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard and get a new Logic Pro 9 installed I think I'd be cool with that.

Not having to buy a new macbook would save me a lot of money for more modules. Just not sure how to go about it at this point. Not positive if it may be a possibility to upgrade up to 10.8 (not positive yet if my older 2008 macbook hardware would support it and calling the apple store and talking to their "customer service" reps is worthless), but first I'd have to buy the OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard package to upgrade to 10.6 first, to then from there (possibly) be able to upgrade to 10.8 finally.

I find I actually prefer around versions 6-7 best.

But it might be going for less of a discount, since it is the last physical version. If you poke around usual places such as Amazon and eBay, it should turn up. Logic 9 was in the App Store, but it originally sold as a physical copy. As a die hard user of older hardware and software, I can't see the App Store being very helpful to users after a short margin of time has passed. I went through something similar this year when I was thinking about upgrading Komplete, but didn't want to upgrade my OS from 10.6.8. As soon as they are done with it, everybody needs to move on. This is the sucky thing about buying software direct from the company.
